Alabama Woman's Heart Rebuilt by Her Own Adult Stem Cells
"I told the doctor, 'I don't understand why we have this huge political mess going on about stem cells'...I'm living proof that adult stem cells work far better than embryonic. And why should embryonic even be in discussion?"
Jennifer Mesko/AH (July 31, 2007)
(Alabama)—When 58-year-old Carron Morrow, an event planner and mother-of-two from Alabama, suffered her 4th heart attack, she was told that the only way she would live was with a transplant. With 100,000 people waiting for a new heart, she began to think it would be the end of life for her.
But when Carron was given an opportunity to take part in a revolutionary new study using adult stem cells to repair hearts, she jumped on board, hoping that she would not be one of those to receive a placebo. (Photo: Citizen Link)
The Citizen Link report states: On Oct. 14, 2006—her birthday—she went into surgery. Doctors removed about 50cc of bone marrow from her left hip. Then the cells were cultivated. Four hours later, she was back in surgery, where 30 million stem cells [from her hip] were injected into the right side of her heart.
After a couple months, Carron began to notice improvements in her strength and stamina; she could sing an entire song, she was able to return to work, and by the Spring, when she put in 80 hours working on a wedding, she knew she'd gotten the stem cells and they were working.
This past month, she was retested and the profound result was a normally functioning heart! "I told the doctor, 'I don't understand why we have this huge political mess going on about stem cells'...I'm living proof that adult stem cells work far better than embryonic. And why should embryonic even be in discussion?" remarked Carron.
She added, "I hope God lets me shout it from the rooftop, 'Your own stem cells work.' I am just so excited about the study of [adult] stem cells, the possibilities."
